ALBANY, GA. (WTXL) — He was a mailman with the United States Post Office but now Nathaniel Johnson is behind bars. He was convicted of stealing over $30,000 in checks that he was supposed to be delivering.
Johnson admitted that he riffled through, opened, and stole United States mail. Including U.S. Treasury checks totaling more than $30,000.
“We all count on our postal employees to handle and deliver some of our most important things. From wedding invitations to tax returns and payroll checks, a great deal of trust is placed in postal workers,” said U.S. Attorney Michael Moore.
Johnson was sentenced to 15 months in prison for mail thefy by a postal employee.
