A document shedding light on poverty in America made its Tallahassee debut tonight on the 50th anniversary of the start of the war on poverty.

The Sundance film ‘Inequality For All’ was put together by former U.S Secretary of Labor, Robert Reich.

19% of Americans were living in poverty when President Lyndon B. Johnson started his campaign.  Today, that number is 15%.  The goal of tonight’s screening: to get people talking.

Windell Paige AT:00 “I hope it’ll just be an enlightening conversation so that everybody has a chance to listen, participate have some input,” said Windell Paige, president of the Big Bend Minority Chamber of Commerce.

“It would be nice if the discussion drew people together, that we can see that despite some difference in opinions, differences across political lines that we all have a lot in common as Americans,” said FSU professor Randall Holcombe.

After the viewing, a panel was held to discuss the topic of poverty.  The screening was made possible by several groups and individuals including state senator Dwight Bullard as well as the city of Tallahassee.
