I am hoping you can help my family and I with the case involving my father. I have written several articles and sent them to the Tallahassee Democrat. I have also sent them information regarding the murder and murderer of my father. They don’t even respond to my attempts. Something didn’t feel right about this case 22 years ago. Something still doesn’t feel right about it. I am hoping to gain publicity to get the Tallahassee police department moving on the case.
On May 13, 1991, my father (Seymour Rice)’s murdered body was found in a shed at the historic Old City Cemetery in Tallahassee. His death was caused by a blow to his head by a pick ax. My father’s horrific murder made the cover of the Tallahassee Democrat the following morning. The only suspect (Bobby Mcnair) in the case was never charged with his murder. This was despite of the following facts : Police were sure he committed the murder. My father’s blood was found on Mr. Mcnair’s shoes. Witnesses saw Mr. Mcnair chase my father down a street near the place of his murder. 22 years later my father’s murder is still left ‘unsolved’. The following links are available regarding his cold case:
Your link to my father’s cold case and others and the lack of competence and intelligence within the Tallahassee police department.
The suspect Bobby Mcnair has had quite the criminal history since my father’s murder. He committed several violent criminal acts against Florida residents from 1991 to 2010. Mr. Mcnair is currently in prison (Holmes C.I.) on several charges and he is due out in 2015. The following links are available regarding Bobby Mcnair:
Seymour Rice was a World War II veteran. He served proudly and bravely in the Pacific against the Japanese. My father was also a retired Dade County (Florida) and Hamilton County (Ohio) Deputy Sheriff. He is buried at a military cemetery in Tallahassee.
In the last few months, I had made several efforts to gain more knowledge about why Mr. Mcnair was never charged in my father’s murder. State Attorney Willie Meggs has held the same current position since my father was killed. Mr. Meggs didn’t seem interested then with my father’s case and still doesn’t now. I have attempted to gain records regarding the case from his office and the Tallahassee Police Department. All I received was the initial police incident report that provided little information. This was after several attempts at getting them. I was finally informed after several efforts on my part that no information could be given because it was still an open case. I was also told that new DNA technology might help in finally charging Bobby Mcnair with my father’s murder. However, pardon my skepticism regarding my father’s case after 22 years of ‘nothing’. Also 22 years of Mr. Mcnair’s violent behavior since.
I am hoping for answers to the following questions:
Why has it been 22 years since my father’s murder and Bobby Mcnair has never been charged?
Why was Bobby Mcnair not charged with the murder with the evidence given in 1991?
What about the other victims of Bobby Mcnair since the murder of my father? What would they say if they knew he should have been in prison for the murder of my father?
Was the reason of ignoring the evidence, race related? I was told by a police officer 22 years ago that it was race related.
