Tallahassee, FL- The Tallahassee Police Department believes children are one our most valuable assets and in an effort to protect them, TPD provides a variety of child safety programs.
In addition to the DEFY program and “Officer Friendly” presentations, TPD’s Community Relations Unit offers RADKids.
RADKids teaches confidence, self-esteem and the power to make good choices. The class also covers a variety of topics to include bullying, stranger-danger, the dangers of drugs, fire and gun safety, assault prevention, abduction recognition and personal safety.
RADKids teaches children to react when dangerous situations arise. It is a self-empowerment class which educates children (ages7-12) to not just react verbally, but to also react physically. The class teaches children what to say and do when a dangerous or uncomfortable situation arises.
For testimonials of how children have escaped their abductors after attending the RADKids class, go to http://www.talgov.com/tpd/radkids.cfm.
As of this date, TPD has educated over 180 children in our community. The next class will be held March 11-14 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at The Tallahassee Police Department, located at 234 East 7th Avenue in Tallahassee, FL.
