When Movies Become Reality
William Foster was done. Dumped by his wife, his employer and, in his mind, society in general he has reached his breaking point. Determined to make things right in his own way he begins to terrorize Los Angeles.
From traffic jams to irrational pricing of a can of soda; the inability to see his daughter on her birthday to the sorry state of customer service – William resorts to violence to make his point about each and every thing he finds to be wrong or unjust.
The movie, Falling Down, does not end warm and fuzzy.
It takes not great intuition to determine the same about the real scenario unfolding in the same city about a different man, this a former LAPD officer who has already killed three.
The names are different, the story is the same.
One man has snapped. Unlike his movie counter-part this shooter is trained, calculated, and completely prepared. I told Will, on Friday after the show that the ex-LAPD cop was going to be around for a while.
His chances took a dramatic turn for the better when reports surfaced that thousands on the “far left” were echoing support through Facebook and Twitter. Some “user names” garnering thousands of followers or likes in a matter of hours. You see this is a game changer.
The shooter (I am leaving out the word “alleged” because he admitted to what he was going to do and what he had already done) could now have a vast network of supporters eager to help him evade capture.
But there’s another twist in the story…I do not believe for one second that LAPD want a peaceful ending to this ongoing tragedy. They want the guy dead. The public line will be because he shot a fellow officer and the family off another. The “rest of the story” is that the guy knows things about corrupt cops and as a result the LAP wants him dead.
The killer has chosen to bring them to justice his way and LAPD is protecting some 50 families as a result. This will end with the death of the shooter. There is not one doubt in my mind that the die has been cast (sorry). The only question is where, when, and will others die first.
