Woman Arrested For Refusing Smart Meter

Woman Arrested for refusing smart meter

Friday, Jan 25, 2013 at 3:58 PM EST | Glenn Beck

Glenn called this story one of the most important issues that will be ramping up in the months and years to come. A woman refused to allow workers to enter her property and install a ‘smart’ meter. The woman refused the update and ended up being arrested over it. Glenn talked more on radio today about why you should be concerned.

“Let me tell you about Jennifer Stahl. She has been a strong advocate against the smart meter program in Naperville, Illinois. She’s been talking about it and standing up against it for two years. The issue came to head on Wednesday afternoon when she was arrested for refusing to let the utility workers install the smart meter on her home. She said, ‘I was protecting my property,’ she said in an interview with TheBlaze yesterday afternoon. ‘I felt my emotion was like a mama bear protecting her babies.’ Stahl was at a friend’s house when she received the call from her husband that the utility workers had arrived. She was home within 15 minutes and saw that they were at a neighbor’s house. Her neighbor was not home, but they had signs stating that they did not permit the new meter to be installed.”

“Stahl said she waited on her porch for the workers to arrive at her house. When they did, she refused them access to her backyard through her locked gate. Police, including the list supervisor, a sergeant, were called. Stahl said the sergeant explained the workers had authorization to access the meter, but Stahl stood her ground, said she didn’t approve the new smart meter. The sergeant continued to try to convince Stahl to comply and said if she didn’t, he’d have to arrest her. ‘The City has always had and maintains the right to access our equipment and today we’re just simply exercising that right,’ says the city manager.”

“The lock on Stahl’s fence was cut and when Stahl wouldn’t step away from the meter, she was led away by an officer, cuffed, and waited for a marked squad car to arrive to take her to the police department. When asked why she was being arrested, she was told it was for interfering with a police officer.”

“Naperville Smart Meter Awareness has filed suit for which there are currently motions to dismiss as well as to grant temporary restricting orders for residents refusing meters. Tom Glass, member of the Naperville Smart Meter Awareness group told TheBlaze Thursday that he felt that the City is arresting residents for refusing is completely frightening in this day and age. The City is sending around people to read these smart meters and they don’t work.”

What does this mean for you? Glenn explained, “I hate to look like I’m anti-technology because, you know, it is an easier way to read the meters. But it is also a way to ‑ it is not just taking some information out. It is able to understand everything in your house. How, you know, how much juice are you pulling, which appliances, what’s going on. They can tell just by reading this smart meter. How many people are in your house? Now, they can do that as well but not electronically. The system can go out. They’re already, they’re already eavesdropping on you on everything else. Now they’re able to tell exactly what you’re doing in your house, how you’re using it, and then they can limit.”

Glenn encouraged listeners to “spit themselves out of the system” and look for ways to unplug from the existing structures out there that they are dependent on. Glenn said he was working on his own energy projects to do just that because he doesn’t want to be tied to existing systems further down the road.
