Did you know that last year in Florida over 58,000 children were arrested—an arrest rate 40% higher than the national average. The majority—53%—were arrested for misdemeanors. For more than 20,000 of the children arrested for misdemeanors, it was their first offense.Across the state of Florida, children continue to be pushed out from their local schools, arrested for minor infractions, and sent away to Florida’s Juvenile Prisons. This practice does not make our communities safer, instead our children become victims of a broken system. Please join the Dream Defenders, the American Civil Liberties Union and the Southern Poverty Law Center at Life Without Limits International Church (1533 S. Monroe Street Tallahassee, FL), next Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 7:00PM for a town hall meeting to discuss the issue of keeping our children in the school system and out of the juvenile justice system. |
