DCA rules against Meggs in legal spat with judge
The 1st District Court of Appeal has ruled against State Attorney Willie Meggs and his request to overturn a judge’s order for prosecutors to prepare jury instructions ahead of trial.
The dispute between Meggs and Leon Circuit Judge Charles Dodson prompted the judge earlier this year to suggest he could throw prosecutors in jail for not following his order to prepare the instructions.
A three-judge panel of the DCA ruled Dec. 10 in favor of Dodson, saying he did not exceed his authority when he issued an order April 11 requiring prosecutors to prepare jury instructions and submit them a day before the start of trial.
