Florida Cannabis Network to Hold Press Conference on Pot Legalization

Jordan is working with the Florida Cannabis Action Network (FLCAN) to make medical cannabis legal for Florida patients.

Jodi James, FLCAN Executive Director, says “For someone like Cathy, who was diagnosed with the possibility that she would literally die choking to death on her own saliva, I’ve got to tell you, cotton mouth is a real blessing.  It’s one of the side effects of cannabis.”

FLCAN is petitioning Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi to take cannabis out of Schedule One.

A schedule one drug has no accepted medical value in the United States, has a high propensity for abuse, and can’t safely be used under the care of a physician.

The group says cannabis does not fit that category.

Members also say legalizing it for medical purposes would also reduce profits of the black market.

Robert Ohlwiler, FLCAN Director and Treasurer, says, “If we eliminate the black market, we eliminate the funds that go to gangs and go to terrorists, and can be directed to the state.”

The group says marijuana does not appear to be a gateway drug to more dangerous drugs.

The group says re-categorizing cannabis opens the door for Florida lawmakers to create sensible policies.  Members turned the petition in today (Tues. 11-13.)

Attorney General Bondi has 30 days to respond in writing.

Florida CAN has a press conference at 9:45 am and will end their petition to the Attorney General at 11 am just prior to the meeting with the Attorney General’s team.
