Tamayo hasn’t kept politics out of campaign
Having met the very pleasant Judge Josefina Tamayo, I can see why 13 percent of the 3,267 lawyers to whom a poll was sent voted in favor of her.
What is important in selecting a judge is that the person not only be an experienced practitioner of law, but also understand the difficulties of life, such as being a single mother and succeeding in a difficult profession. Barbara Hobbs is a good role model because she prevailed in both areas. She has been an attorney for 30 years and has practiced law in every court of the Second Circuit.
My main objection though to Judge Tamayo is that it is inappropriate for a judge to campaign in the political arena, and her having a fundraising led by Attorney General Pam Bondi and other Republicans certainly has political motivations. However, extolling in the endorsement by NRA lobbyist Marion Hammer, which Judge Tamayo displays on her web page, makes one suspicious of her impartiality on cases where guns might be involved and her political connections.
I believe that for these reasons Hobbs is the better choice.
