TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — The job of Leon County Superintendent is to oversee one of the largest districts in North Florida.
Leon County Schools has more than 34,000 students, 4,000 teachers and staff, and 41 school buildings.
In just a few weeks though attention will be on the TWO candidates running for the district’s top job: Jackie Pons and Sabrina Allen.

Current superintendent, Jackie Pons, was first elected in 2006. According to his biography, Pons has worked as a Principal, Assistant Principal, Athletic Director, and Basketball Coach. A graduate of Florida State University and Florida A&M University, Pons is running for re-election as a Democrat on the November 6 ballot.
“We have one of the highest performing school systems in the entire state, six years ago you trusted me with our children’s future,” Pons said. “I hope that trust is just as strong today.”
Sabrina Allen is running with No Party Affiliation against Pons for the district’s top job.
Allen, according to her biography, is a life long Tallahassee resident with 15 years experience teaching English and Reading. A graduate of Florida State University and Florida A&M University, Allen has also taught courses at Tallahassee Community College and FSU.
“I believe I’m the choice for Superintendent of schools, because I’m qualified to make sure all students receive equal opportunity for high quality education,” Allen said.
