TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Local Commissioner Bill Proctor says he intends to file complaints against Circuit Judge Josefina Tamayo and Attorney General Pam Bondi. .
Proctor writes in a letter to the Judge Charges Francis, Chief Judge of the Second Judicial Court, that the complaints stem from Bondi’s backing of Tamayo’s campaign for circuit judge. Bondi reportedly hosted a fundraiser for Tamayo. .
In the letter, Proctor says that judges and judicial races are supposed to be balanced and nonpartisan — they can’t be Republican or Democrat. He says that endorsement by Bondi, a Republican, raises serious questions.
. He writes, “What does this political partisan alignment mean? Are the voters to assume that by association—Tamayo supports Mitt Romney and oppose President Obama‘s national affordable health care like the Attorney General and Governor Scott?”
. He says that Bondi’s endorsement could cloud key legislative issues, such as the three percent pension plan for state employees.
. “Apparently, the judiciary is for sale and the Attorney General of the Sate of Florida has decided to respond to the for sale sign that Josefina Tamayo‘s candidacy now represents. Bondi has entered the sweepstakes to buy off Tamayo‘s independent judgment,” Proctor writes.
. Tamayo has not issued a formal response to Proctor’s allegations.
. We will have the latest updates as they are released.
