How Do I Report Police Corruption?

While most police officers are dedicated to serving the public and keeping residents safe, illegal activities by some officers can create a climate of mistrust among citizens. Residents often fear reporting police corruption, believing they will not be taken seriously or that their assertions will not be fully investigated. But various resources are available to the public when it comes to reporting police misconduct.


Internal Investigation

Call the police department’s internal affairs office. Most police agencies have a division that investigates claims of police abuse and misconduct. Ask to speak to the head of the division and explain your concerns. If worried about revealing your identity, send an anonymous letter to the internal affairs office with your complaint.

Public Safety Board
Contact a public safety entity. Many cities have police safety or merit boards which routinely oversee the police department. The outside agency generally deals with officer discipline and severe police misconduct. If unsure that your city or town has such a board, check with your city or county council.

Outside Agency
Inform the state police. Frequently in corruption cases, an outside police agency such as state police are brought into investigate claims of misconduct. All U.S. cities have a state police post that handles local crime.

Federal Authorities
Make a report with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). With widespread crime involving multiple officers, calling your local FBI office is best. Federal agencies have the highest authority when it comes to looking into activities of smaller departments. To find a local FBI office near you, go to http://www.fbi.gov/contact/fo/fo.htm.

Media
Contact a local newspaper. Getting the local media involved often ensures a corruption report will not only be investigated, but will be followed up on. Newspaper reporters have the tools to do research on police disciplinary records and officer misconduct. If concerned about anonymity, send an email or write a letter to your local newspaper editor with your police concerns.

    Honestly you can report police corruption the only thing you will get out of that is they arrange an accident for you. I have witnessed police corruption all my life murder, child porn, selling by and for terrorist orgs, rigging militarily here in the states, name the crime I’ve seen it-including the murders of other police officers-I grew up in Snohomish county Washington state-I witnessed the murder of Officer Greg Cessna who worked undercover with Bobby Lee Tallman both were put into fake car accidents-Greg was from Colorado-He was knee deep in police corruption in Snohomish County washington he was never getting out alive. I cant with all my heart believe Greg’s superior let that shit fly-duh. tire irons were used on him he was cut up and duct tape and syringes used on him -Rick Bart and Lewis P. STanton and affiliates killed alot of cops and innocent children-It is too bad we dont have real cops anywhere. I’ve had many attempts on my life alot of car accidents and my children have always been used for collateral-
    Washington state is a huge terrorist cell even the dv and homeless shelters are in on body parting and selling american children-no one cares you begin to know that when you have been eye witness to countless crimes and your next even tho like the other victims you never stopped reporting those crimes-to try to save someone else.
