Leon County, FL – September 17, 2012
There’s a new lawsuit tonight against a local leader.
Leon County Commission Chairman Akin Akinyemi is accused of failing to pay more than 41-thousand dollars of a nearly 43-thousand dollar loan he was given nearly a year ago.
Capital City Bank names Akinyemi and his firm Akin and Associates Architects.
Additionally, county records show Akinyemi does not list that loan in his most recent financial disclosure form filed this past June.
He lists his home mortgage as his only liability on that form.
In 2008, Florida’s Ethics Commission ruled Akinyemi violated state law by failing to report a savings account, a certificate of deposit and the value of his ownership in a business.
He was fined $150, less than the cost of a ticket for running one of Tallahassee’s red light cameras.
We were unable to reach Akinyemi for comment.
He’s being challenged for re-election by Mary Ann Lindley this November.
