Williams painted the State Attorney’s Office as a place with low morale and high turnover, where good prosecutors have been forced to leave because of pay and other issues. He also said that over the past four years, Meggs has had a 65-percent conviction rate for jury trials, which he said is below the rate of most other circuits. Williams said when he was state prosecutor, his office had a 95 percent or higher conviction rate.
“Something’s wrong when you lose a third of your cases,” Williams said. “It’s a good indicator the office has not been pursuing the right cases.”
