Tonight’s city commission turned heated when Mayor John Marks for the first time in months fired back at City Hall critic and local landlord Erwin Jackson.
Jackson, who wore an ivory cowboy hat and placed two giant poster boards of recent Tallahassee Democrat articles related to ethics charges being filed against Marks, called for Marks to be suspended from office. Marks said he’s been under a gag order for 18 months not to speak publically on the ethics complaints Jackson filed against him. He chastised Jackson for the “attacks on him and his family.”
“This is what harassment is all about. This is what stalking is all about. This man is nothing but a stalker. He has harassed me and my family,” Marks said. While Marks said Jackson has the right to speak during meetings, he said Jackson does not have the right to be believed. But Marks heard pleas from commissioners to get his ethics case, which involves probable cause found in votes Marks made related to the Alliance for Digital Equality and Honeywell that’s tied to the city’s recently praised Smart Grid system. “This is a cloud that has to move on,” Commissioner Gil Ziffer said.
